lavendula officinalis/angustifoliasource: lavender is a member of the mint family and native to the mediteranean.  this popular ornamental is an essential part of perfumes, potpourri, and sachets, as well as being an ancient greco-roman medicine.

standardization: none.

dosage: capsules: 800 mg daily.  tincture: 10-30 drops, 3-4 times daily.

may be applied directly on the skin or diluted; 20 drops of essential oil in 20 drops of a carrier oil.  lavender oil is an external antiseptic and pain reliever.  the tincture is used internally as a relaxant and antidepressant.

safety: do not use internally during pregnancy due to its emmenagogue effects" (hershoff & rotelli, 2001)..
